What Hide-and-Seek Taught Me About Courage
/We were playing a simple game of hide-and-seek. “…18..19…20! Ready or not here I come!!” I yelled to the girls. I immediately heard my 5 year old break out in a fit of tears, crying out “IIIIIIIIII didn’t hide yet! I couldn’t pick a spot!” With a dramatic flair that rivals only that of her mama, she sobbed as she explained that she wanted to find the BEST SPOT EVER and could not decide in time.
Sometimes our fear of getting it wrong paralyzes us. We over-think, over-analyze, and run through every possible scenario until we’re either completely depleted or simply out of time.
This is especially true when it comes to big decisions that we’re seeking God on. We want to follow His guidance and partner with His will for our lives, but often our fear disrupts our faith because we’re allowing fear of failure, fear of getting it wrong, fear of making the wrong choice to paralyze us and keep us stagnant.
Faith usually involves risk. It involves having the courage it takes to keep moving forward, amidst uncertainty. We’re not promised that the road will always be easy, but we can rest assured in the arms of a good, trustworthy Father.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 {NIV}
What would it look like to step out in Faith? To silence the voice of fear in your life? To stop being so afraid? To take the next step, even if you’re not sure where the path will lead? To trust that even if it’s a misstep, even if you got it wrong, God will be faithful to make your path straight?
I’m encouraging you today so that you can walk IN COURAGE. In faithful pursuit of all the good plans God has in store for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to use you to help build His Kingdom on the earth. The enemy wants to paralyze you. He wants to keep you anxious, inactive, and walking in a spirit of fear. But, my darling friend, God is whispering to you today, “BE NOT AFRAID. I’ve got you.”
From my heart to yours,
Monika
